East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Waste & Minerals Core Strategy - Preferred Strategy
Foreword
In recent years our Councils have taken great strides in diverting waste away from landfill and towards recycling and recovery. During 2007/8 alone the diversion from landfill of municipal waste increased from 32% to 43%. That’s over 40,000 tonnes more rubbish being put to a further use instead of just being thrown away. While this is great news, we also need to plan for waste produced by commerce and industry - still a huge quantity of rubbish that will continue to put pressure on the very little landfill capacity that the area can provide.
In addition, this document sets out how minerals needed for industry, for example for the construction of new workspace and houses, should be provided from resources in the area.
This document puts forward the Councils’ thoughts on a way forward for managing wastes and producing minerals through to 2026. We want to hear as many views as possible and hope that you will take the time to consider the proposals in this document and provide your comments.
Thank you.
